Biography
David Stewart was signed by Ray Stewart during the summer, after he was released by Dumbarton. Dumbarton supporter Paul Karlsen takes up the story…..
Davie was a fan’s favourite at The Rock. Joined us from Ayr, and with his
hard tackling and 100% commitment, it wasn't long before he was a regular in
the back 4, and eventually became club captain. Looked to be one for the
future. He was in a very serious car crash, in which he almost died, and
when he returned, at the start of the season, he wasn't quite the player he
used to be. Was kept out of the side by the Duffy/Collins partnership in
central defence. Played out of position, at left back, on several
occasions, until Craig Britain returned from injury, after which he found it
hard to get a game. Was allowed to go, along with quite a few other
players, at the end of the season, as Brian Fairley couldn't guarantee him a
starting place, and as Davie himself said to me at the end of season bash "A
player that is happy to sit on the bench should give up football".
David moved to Queen's Park during the 03/04 season.
